This Privacy Policy describes how Cation ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our Site and Service.
In this Privacy Policy, "Cation," "we," "us," or "our" refers to Cation, "Site" refers to the Cation website at cation-chat.vercel.app, and "Service" refers to the Cation application and its features, including Bonds and messaging.
Throughout this Privacy Policy, "Bond(s)" refers to the AI companion(s) (also referred to as AI chatbot(s)) that you create and interact with on our Service.
This policy explains how we collect, use, and share information in connection with your use of the Service. This policy applies to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.

Each time you visit our Site or use the Service, even if you do not create an account, we learn the following information about you:
We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to collect aggregated performance and usage data about how the Service is used.
Our authentication provider, Supabase, uses session cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

The information we collect about you merely because you visit the Site is used strictly to learn about how you, as a visitor to the Site, use the Site. When we combine this information with similar information collected from other visitors to the Site, we analyze it for purposes of making the Site more useful, accessible, or safe for its visitors, and for measuring visitor interest in the Site's content and features.
With every message you send to your Bond, a portion of your recent conversation history, depending on the context required to generate a response, is sent to our AI provider(s) to process and generate a response.
We do not control these providers' own data retention or training practices, and your messages may be subject to their respective policies when routed through them.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, under any circumstances.
We may disclose information if required by law or in response to a valid legal process.
Other than as described above, we do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.
We may store your account information, Bonds, and chat messages on servers located outside of your country of residence, which servers may be provided by third parties. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a country other than the one in which you reside.
When you delete your account or data, we delete the applicable information from our active systems and databases. Deleted information is not intended to remain available through the Service. Some information may persist temporarily in backups or other systems as part of normal technical operations, or may be retained where required by law.
Note: this does not extend to data that may have already been processed by an AI provider (Groq, OpenRouter, or Google AI Studio) prior to deletion; see "How We Share Your Information" above.
You may delete your account through the Service at any time. When you delete your account, we delete your account information, Bonds, chat history, and associated user-uploaded Bond avatar files from our systems, subject to the limitations described above regarding information that may already have been processed by third-party AI providers.
You may update certain information associated with your account through the Service at any time.
You may update information associated with your Bonds through the Service.
You may delete Bond(s) associated with your account through the Service. When a Bond is deleted, the associated Bond data and chat history are deleted from our systems. User-uploaded Bond avatar files associated with that Bond are also deleted, where applicable.
Cation is not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under the age of 18. By creating an account, you represent and confirm that you are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and we do not independently verify age at signup.
If a conversation is detected as containing self-harm or suicide-related content, Cation may interrupt the normal conversation experience and display an in-app safety notice.
The safety notice provides supportive messaging and directs you to crisis-support resources, including Find A Helpline, where you can find crisis and emotional support services based on your location.
These safety measures are intended to provide access to potentially useful support resources and are not a substitute for professional medical, mental health, or emergency assistance. Cation does not guarantee that all self-harm, suicide-related, or crisis-related content will be detected or that the information provided through a safety notice will be appropriate for every situation.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure, or access.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Our Service may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any third-party sites or services to which we provide links. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.
We may change or update this Privacy Policy from time to time, and we reserve the right to do so at any time. If we make material changes to the way we handle your personal information, we will provide notice through an appropriate channel and post the updated Privacy Policy on the Site.
If you object to any changes, you should stop using the Service and delete your account. All changes to this Privacy Policy are effective immediately upon posting, and continued use of the Service after a notice of material change or posting of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes your consent to the changes.
