This Privacy Policy describes how Cation ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website at cation-chat.vercel.app (the "Service"). Throughout this Privacy Policy, "Bond(s)" refers to the AI companion(s) (also referred to as AI chatbot(s)) that you create and interact with on our Service.
By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. This policy applies to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.

Information collected automatically
Each time you visit our Site or use the Service, even if you do not create an account, we learn the following information about you:
We may also receive information about you from social media platforms, or information others provide us about you.
We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to collect anonymized, aggregated performance and usage data about how the Service is used.
Our authentication provider, Supabase, uses session cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
We use the information we collect to:
The information we collect about you merely because you visit Site is used strictly to learn about how you, as a visitor to the Site, use the Site. When we combine this information with similar information collected from other visitors to Site, we analyze it for purposes of making the Site more useful to, accessible by, or safe for its visitors, and measuring visitor interest in the Site’s content and features.
With every message you send to your Bond, your recent message history (approximately 10-50 messages, depending on context) is sent to our AI provider(s) to process and generate a response.
We do not control these providers' own data retention or training practices, and your messages may be subject to their respective policies when routed through them.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, under any circumstances.
We may disclose information if required by law or in response to a valid legal process.
Other than as described above, we do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.
We may store your account information, Bonds, and chat messages on servers located outside of your country of residence, which servers may be provided by third parties. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a country other than the one in which you reside.
We do not retain your personal data after you delete it or your account. Once data is deleted from our systems, it is automatically and permanently wiped from our database and is not recoverable. As a result, we have no retained copy of your information to use or disclose after deletion.
Note: this does not extend to data that may have already been processed by a AI provider (Groq, OpenRouter, or Google AI Studio) prior to deletion; see "How We Share Your Information" above.
Account deletion is not yet available as a self-service feature in the Service. Full self-service account editing and deletion is planned and coming soon. In the meantime, if you would like your account, Bonds, and chat history deleted, please contact us at aayan.tanvir.dev@gmail.com and we will manually delete your data.
Once self-service deletion is implemented, you will be able to delete your account at any time, which will permanently delete all of your Bonds and associated chat messages.
Cation is not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under the age of 18. By creating an account, you represent and confirm that you are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and we do not independently verify age at signup.
If a conversation involves self-harm or crisis-related content, our Bonds are designed to break character and respond with supportive messaging and crisis helpline information.
We are also working on additional safeguards, including an in-app notice that will surface a helpline directly when such content is detected (not yet implemented as of this policy's last update).
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure, or access.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Our Service may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any third-party sites or services to which we provide links. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.
We may change or update this Privacy Policy from time to time, and we reserve the right to do so at any time. If we make material changes to the way we handle your personal information, we will provide notice through an appropriate channel and post the updated Privacy Policy on the Site.
If you object to any changes, you should stop using the Service and delete your account. All changes to this Privacy Policy are effective immediately upon posting, and continued use of the Service after a notice of material change or posting of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes your consent to the changes.
If you believe we are not abiding by this Privacy Policy, please contact us immediately using the information below.
